Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the Luma Controls ecosystem.

LumaLink is the distributed automation backbone of the Luma Controls ecosystem. It connects LumaLink modules over a 4-wire bus, allowing inputs and outputs to interact across the system.

Automation logic and configuration are stored and executed locally by the modules, reducing dependence on a central controller.

→ Learn more about LumaLink

No, a central controller is an optional component. LumaLink uses a distributed architecture in which each module executes its own configuration and automation logic.

Core functions can therefore continue to operate without depending on LumaConnect or another central controller.

What is LumaSense?

LumaSense is a 3-wire interface bus for connecting devices such as pushbuttons, sensors and other inputs or outputs to compatible LumaLink modules.

What is LumaConfig?

LumaConfig is the browser-based commissioning and service interface for LumaLink modules. It is used to configure module functions, linking, scenes, groups, logic and other device settings.

What is LumaConnect?

LumaConnect extends a LumaLink installation with higher-level automation, third-party integrations, dashboards and secure remote access.

LumaConnect is built on the Home Assistant platform and includes pre-integrated support for LumaLink.

Can I access LumaConnect remotely?

Yes. LumaConnect provides secure, encrypted remote access.

Why can't I access LumaConfig?

Depending on the module configuration, LumaConfig access may be automatically disabled after a configured timeout period.

To temporarily enable LumaConfig, press and hold the Up + Down buttons on the front panel of a module:

  • Hold for 5 seconds to enable LumaConfig for that module.
  • Hold for 10 seconds to enable LumaConfig for all connected LumaLink modules on the bus (provided they use the same service key).

Where can I find the product manuals?

→ View Manuals

Yes. LumaLink modules can integrate with standard, unmodified Home Assistant setups using MQTT, but without official support. The Luma Controls documentation includes a step-by-step Home Assistant setup guide.

What is the difference between Luma One and Luma One XL?

Both are distributed LumaLink automation modules.

Luma One is a multifunctional 4-channel relay module, while Luma One XL provides 16 relay channels with extra dedicated pushbutton inputs.

Both execute automation logic locally and form part of the LumaLink Core.
